US President Barack Obama is taking his financial reform message to New York today and he will promote reform proposals in a speech in the historic Great Hall at Cooper Union college in downtown Manhattan, where the 16th president , Abraham Lincoln, as a candidate in 1860 had called for a limit on expansion of slavery to new states of the American West.
