Markets News Afternoon: Italy’s public debt increases; Public finances in Greece improve

Markets news on stocks, currencies and oil;  Italy today reported record public debt of €1.813tln, an increase of 0.8% in a month, three weeks after the government announced measures to cut overspending. In Greece, the Greek government says that the Eurozone/IMF adjustment programme is 'on the right path', and that from January to May the deficit had fallen by 38.8% from the equivalent figure last year. The government has forecast an improvement of 35.1% for the whole of 2010.
