Japan’s prime minister resigns; World’s third biggest economy awaits its sixth leader in five years

Naoto Kan, Japan's prime minister, announced his resignation Friday, nearly three months after first indicating he would do so, following the passage of two major bills in parliament. On Monday, members of the ruling Democratic Party will elect their third leader since winning power in August 2009 and the sixth prime minister in five years.
