Irish retail sales volume fell by 4.5% in 2008

The volume of retail sales (i.e. excluding price effects) fell by 8.3% in December 2008 compared to December 2007, according to the CSO. There was a monthly increase of 0.5%. If Motor Trades are excluded there was an annual decrease of 8.2% and the monthly change was -0.2%. The volume of retail sales for the year 2008 decreased by 4.5% when compared to 2007.
