Irish Live Register short term claimants increased by 166,452 — 113.4% - - in year to April 2009; 70,828 of total of 384,113 on Register for more than 1 year

The CSO reported today, that there was an increase of 166,452 (+113.4%) in short term claimants on the Live Register in the year to April 2009. This represented 88.7% of the total increase on the Live Register over the year. Almost three-quarters (122,889) of this short term increase occurred between October 2008 and April 2009. Some 70,828 of the total of 384,113, have been on the Register for more than 1 year.
