The number of Irish first-time buyer mortgages fell by almost 30% in the first half of 2008, it was reported on Monday. Also yesterday, the Bank of England reported that the number of new mortgages for home purchases in the UK in July, fell to its lowest level on record, totalling 33,000 loans.
