Irish Exchequer deficit rose to €24.6 billion in 2009; Tax revenues at €33.04 billion - - down 19% on 2008 and back to 2003 levels

At end-2009, an Irish Exchequer deficit of €24.6 billion was recorded, which is slightly better than was expected in the December Budget. It compares to a deficit of €12.7 billion in 2008. Tax revenue, at €33.,04 billion was €1,36 billion or 3.9 per cent behind the target set in the April 2009 Emergency Budget - - down 19 per cent on 2008 and back to 2003 levels.
