Irish employment decline slows to 4.1% in the year to Q2 2010; Non-Irish nationals accounted for 12.4% of workforce and 46,800 were unemployed; Net emigration rises to 34,500

Quarterly Household Survey: There were 1,859,100 persons in employment in the second quarter of 2010, an annual decrease of 79,400 or 4.1%. This compares with an annual decrease in employment of 5.5% in the previous quarter and a decline of 8.2% in the year to the second quarter of 2009. Non-Irish nationals accounted for 12.4% of all persons aged 15 and over in employment and 46,800 were unemployed. Net emigration in the twelve months to April 2010 rose to 34,500 from 7,800 in
2009, the largest net outflow since 1989.
