Irish Economy: The Irish Times reports today that "twenty-four leading business people in Ireland have been shortlisted for this year’s Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award." There will however, be no awards for failed entrepreneurs whether through the shortcomings of the individuals themselves or because of the negligence of the dangerously listing national enterprise known as the LÉ Cowen, which has perfected the art of the circular firing squad and holed itself below the waterline. Beyond doomed business dreams and efforts that have gone up in smoke, the unemployed in general struggle in a shadow world. In contrast with the recent extensive Irish media coverage, which was given to the axing by the State broadcaster RTÉ, of the television show, that was presented by the sisters Gráinne and Síle Seoige, the misery of unemployment for the tens of thousands of non-celebrities and related fear of running out of money in the modern economy, seldom has a human face.
