Irish economy on auto-pilot as confidence is in dire need of bolstering

In the traditional month of good cheer in Ireland, confidence in the Irish economy is in dire need of bolstering but politicians who ducked tough decisions, during a decade of prosperity, have shown themselves to be incapable of matching words with decisive actions. As the business sector prepares for grim months ahead against a bleak international backdrop, Taoiseach Brian Cowen and his ministers continue to flounder.
