Irish Economy: The National Economic & Social Council (NESC) on Tuesday called for an integrated national response to the current crisis. Such a response, the Council argues, must be widely understood, command support and, most importantly, engage the ability and energy of the Irish people. The NESC said there will not be a return to the economy which prevailed from 1990 to 2008. Yet it was in that economy that Ireland achieved its greatest convergence towards the levels of prosperity in Western Europe. It says this seems likely to have profound, as yet unknown, implications for Ireland.
