The overall KBC Ireland/ESRI Consumer Sentiment Index improved in December. The Consumer Sentiment Index was 50.2 in December 2008, compared with 44.8 in November 2008. KBC economist Austin Hughes, a leading cheerleader of the property boom, asks if the slightly better tone to Irish consumer sentiment surveys of late imply that the average man or woman in the street is becoming oblivious to the increasingly gloomy media message on the economy?
