Ireland implements EU services directive after legal threat; O’Keeffe claims €16bn annual benefit for Irish exports!

The transposition deadline for the the EU services directive was the end of December 2009 and despite Ireland having been warned of legal proceedings for failure to implement the directive by the deadline, the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O’Keeffe TD claimed today that the measure will benefit annual Irish exports by €16bn annually - - it's a baseless figure plucked from the air as Irish-owned services firms have an insignificant role in services exports.
