Gross Irish insurance premium income for 2008 fell 26%

Gross insurance premium income for 2008 for non-life and life insurance business in Ireland was €13,431m, compared to €18,205m in 2007 (a decrease of 26%). Premium income as a percentage of GDP was 7.4%, down from 9.7% in 2007. Life premiums per capita decreased from €3,414 in 2007 to €2,295 in 2008. Non-life premiums per capita fell from €860 in 2007 to €758 in 2008.
