German Ifo Institute: Many economic stimulus measures only focus on the short-term effects and ignore the long-term consequences. The German car scrapping scheme is a clear example, which in the medium term, because of bringing-forward effects, will lead to a fall in demand and in the long term will even destroy economic assets and contribute to the national debt growing to unknown heights.
