Food prices have pushed UK farmland prices to record highs according to the RICS’(Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) rural market survey for the first half of 2008 but lifestyle buyers - often City slickers eager to spend their bonuses on a rural weekend retreat - retreated as the credit crunch deepened.
