EU’s innovation performance needs major improvements; Irish research produces few patents

A major report on innovation in the European Union (EU) published Thursday says the rate of growth of Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) patent applications in Japan and South Korea is almost double that of the EU. Half of the 27 member countries do not produce high-tech European Patent Office (EPO) patents at all. The report notes that Irish research produces few patents.
