Eurozone retail sales posted sharpest growth in January since May 2006

January data from Markit’s Eurozone Retail PMI survey indicated one of the strongest months since the series began seven years ago. Monthly sales and retail workforces expanded at the fastest rates since May 2006 and April 2007 respectively, and sales rose across all three of the countries covered, namely Germany, France and Italy. The latest survey results also highlighted growing inflationary pressures for retailers.
