The European Commission has proposed that Eurozone countries submit their national budgets for what it terms a 'peer review' before they go to national parliaments. The Commission President told reporters: “You can’t have a monetary union without having an economic union," he said. "Member states should have the courage to say whether they want an economic union or not. And if they don’t," then “it’s better to forget monetary union all together.”
