ESRI says the Irish economy will experience a recession in 2008 - the first time since 1983; Dramatic slowdown will result in sharp rise in public finances deficit

The ESRI - - the Economic and Social Research Institute - - says in its latest Quarterly Economic Commentary, published today, that Ireland will experience a recession for the first time since 1983. For 2009, the Institute expects an upturn with real GNP expected to grow by 1.9 per cent and real GDP expected to grow by 2 per cent.
