ECB and Bank of England keep interest rates unchanged; Trichet to address press conference

At today’s meeting the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) decided to keep the benchmark interest rate unchanged at 1.00%. The Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee also today voted to maintain its policy rate at 0.5% - - the lowest since 1694. The President of the ECB will comment on the considerations underlying these decisions at a press conference starting at 1.30 p.m. Irish time today.
