Despite the deep recession, Ireland's high net worth population rose by over 10 per cent in 2009, with an additional 1,800 Irish people becoming high net worth individuals (HNWIs), defined as those having investable assets of $1m or more, excluding primary residence, collectibles, consumables, and consumer durables. Globally, wealth recovery almost offset 2008 losses.
