Dáil approves emergency Irish bank guarantee legislation by 124 – 18; US Senate approves $700 billion Wall Street rescue plan by 74 – 25

The Dáil approved the Government’s Irish bank-guarantee legislation, by 124 – 18 at 2 o’clock this morning. In Washington DC, the US Senate endorsed the $700 billion Wall Street rescue plan, that has enough popular sweeteners, to induce House acceptance by Friday. The margin was 74 – 25. Senator Edward Kennedy, who is being treated for brain cancer, was the only absentee.
