Cowen announces public sector pensions levy; Total spending cuts of €2 billion

The Taoiseach Brian Cowen told the Dáil this afternoon that the Government will introduce a levy on public service pensions. He outlined measures the Government agreed in order to cut €2 billion in public spending, which were the subject of talks with the social partners that collapsed early today.
