Apple sells less iPhones than expected while Yahoo continues to slide

Apple said Tuesday it sold more than 17m iPhones in its fiscal fourth quarter ended Sept. 24 -- a rise from 14m a year ago but below the 20m or more that Wall Street analysts had been expecting. Also on Tuesday, Yahoo reported its performance continued to slide in the quarter it fired its CEO.
