Apple reports 78% surge in profit and record sales

Apple on Tuesday reported a 78% surge in profit and record sales of its popular electronic products in the holiday quarter, but as expected company's executives had nothing to add to Monday's surprise announcement of the medical leave of co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs, who had a liver transplant in 2009.
