Aer Lingus March traffic fell by 7.0% - - long haul down 20.9%; Ryanair calls for appointment of trade union leader David Begg as Chief Executive!

Aer Lingus announced traffic statistics for March today and total passenger numbers fell by 7.0% to 835,000 in March 2009 compared to March 2008, comprising a 5.1% reduction on short haul and a 20.9% reduction on long haul. Ryanair, Ireland’s largest airline, which has a stake of almost 30% in the former State airline, called upon Aer Lingus to appoint trade union leader David Begg as the new Chief executive.
